The Butterfly Project
I Never Saw Another Butterfly is a collection of art and poetry by Jewish children who lived in the concentration camp Theresienstadt. They were created in secret art classes taught by Friedl Dicker-Brandeis. The title poem, at the beginning of this video, was written by Pavel Friedmann who was incarcerated at Theresienstadt and was later killed at Auschwitz. Most of the children whose poems are in the collection died prior to the camp's liberation.
My students made butterflies in memory of those children.
This video begins with the "I Never Saw Another Butterfly" video by Ahuva Soibelman followed by stills of my students' butterflies on our "Night" tree.
